Yesterday I shot * A Celebration of Life * for Bobreta Franklin. I didn't know this woman, but feel blessed that I was asked to photograph the celebration...that included Louisiana Gumbo, dancing and a lot of wonderful stories about an extraordinary woman who loved people, and gave her life to service. Godspeed. © Corlyce M. Olivieri website : Corlyce.smugmug.com

I took a photography workshop over the weekend on Coronado Island. I've never been there before...nice, crowded, little community. This is a secret spot where the instructor took us after. In the next few days, I'll be posting pictures from that shoot and introduce you to the instructor, Hector Gonzales....a real sweetheart. © Corlyce M. I'm still in awe of these two women, Ginger and Vi. One, I cant imagine being with someone 50 years...and now that I'm 51...well, I would have to meet someone tomorrow and live to be at least 100. All I can say is, The Universe works in mysterious ways.....And for whatever reason, I was to be a part of this special day for these two women. But, it wasn't just these two women...it was everyone involved. It was a small gathering, but now that I look back, very deliberate...definitely set up by higher powers . There are no accidents. © Corlyce M. Olivieri website : Corlyce.smugmug.com

I got a call at about 9:30 this morning to photograph a wedding for an 80 year old couple, who had been together for 50 years. It was a lovely ceremony with a wonderful gathering of women. Congratulations Ginger and Vi....it was an honor and a privilege to be a part of your day. " Never let your sister go hungry." © Corlyce M. Olivieri Corlyce.smugmug.com

I took this shot on the side of the road a few weeks ago, on the way home from Temecula. I could see this gorgeous sunset out of my rearview mirror, but there was nowhere safe to stop to shoot....and of course, a semi was parked where the perfect shot could be taken. So, I drove up ahead of the truck, pulled out my camera, popped on a lens.....and caught the last few seconds. © Corlyce M. Olivieri. website : Corlyce.smugmug.com

To be honest, there aren't many things I miss about my old home in Santa Cruz. Having been born and raised there, I have seen too many changes over the years....and not good ones. One of the reasons I moved to the desert. BUT the ONE thing I do miss, is photographing the surfers....The Hook, The Point, Steamers, Middle Peak, Mavericks....The GREAT thing, is now I get to explore southern California, and shoot at other world class beaches. So, today, I dedicate my blog to all the surfers, who help make my work, my passion, more of a joy every day. ALL photos © Corlyce M. Olivieri website : Corlyce.smugmug.com

As I come to the end of another day, I have to remember to be grateful. I don't mean religious grateful...but the kind that comes with knowing something higher does exist somewhere out there. I don't even care who it is....I just know it's out there. So, today, I'm grateful for this fine life...my friends,,,,the little bit of family I have left....kitties are safe and healthy ( because IT IS all about the cats, isn't it ? ) That I can breathe through my own nose...see, hear....and I have a voice. I still have a voice that no one can silence. Not yet, anyway. © Corlyce M. Olivieri. website : Corlyce.smugmug.com

I guess the point of a blog, is to write in it every day...which I don't seem to be very good at. I text people every day, so why should a blog be so different. I think a blog is like a public diary, so people want to hear about your daily experiences. So far, nothing spectacular...networking and hustling for work...loving my new life here in the desert. Here is a little something I shot the other night in Palm Springs. Enjoy. photo © Corlyce M. Olivieri

Welcome to Photography by Corlyce! My mission is to communicate joy through my photography. My vision is a world where everyone admires the beauty in the small, everyday things. As you browse my photos, you’ll see that I bring my core values into my work: • A joyful, light heart • Love of the outdoors • Connection with others • Fun and playfulness I photograph those real-life scenes that tell a story, that give you a feeling about the whole day from that one picture. I love being able to capture that moment, because it will never happen again. My pictures convey the beauty of the most simple things, like a flower or a body in a motion. You’ll find me on the water most often, but I love all things outdoors. I developed a real passion for photography when my mother was dying of cancer. She was in the hospital for almost a month, and I felt driven to bring the beauty of the world outside to her in her hospital room. She was a woman who spent a lot of time in the garden, and it was devastating to me to see her hooked up to tubes and stuck in her bed. I photographed everything I knew my mother would see as beautiful—sunsets, family members, her cat, her garden. Though the nurses didn’t approve, I covered the wall that my mom looked at all day with 8 x 10 photos I had taken for her. I wanted her to be surrounded by beauty. In the end, we’re all just a bunch of snapshots that make up one big picture called the world. Each one of those snapshots is beautiful. photo © Corlyce M. Olivieri
